New York, Buenos Aires, December 2nd, 2011 – Utilísima, the only 24-hour, 100% original, Spanish-language lifestyle network, announced today that Lorena García, one of the country’s leading Latina chefs, will star in a new original series “Lorena En Su Salsa,” created specifically for U.S. Hispanic audiences, about U.S. Hispanics. The new series, which was shot entirely in Miami and will feature the rich culture of the city’s people, will premiere on January22nd at 8PM EST/PST.
“For Latinos, cooking is a sacred ritual,” said García. “The idea behind this show was to celebrate Latino culture and cuisine by exploring the city of Miami and finding inspiration in its people, their customs, stories, and favorite recipes.”
With her new series, “Lorena en Su Salsa,” García will introduce viewers to a variety of Latino cultures and cuisines in thirteen half-hour episodes. She will begin each episode on location looking for inspiration from her recipes to come up with the meal of the day. She will then set out to explore Latino restaurants and markets, speak with vendors, showcase specific products, and get acquainted with the everyday citizens who shop in these places. She will attend a typical Latino family reunion and learn how the family members manage to maintain their traditions and customs while living in the U.S. She will also speak with local artists, feature local restaurants, and explore the streets of Miami in search of creative new ideas.
When her guests arrive the celebration truly begins. Lorena will welcome them into her home and will prepare a meal for them with the intention of transporting them back to their roots. The festivities will also serve as a toast to the vibrant city of Miami, a celebration of Latino culture, and a testament to the importance of spending quality time with loved ones.
“My inspiration for cooking comes from my family,” explained García. “Therefore, I can’t think of a better way to share my passion for cooking than by inviting families from Miami into my home and deriving inspiration from their stories and their cultures.”
García has developed two successful Miami restaurants, Food Café and Elements Tierra, and in February of 2011 opened her latest venture, Lorena García Cocina Restaurant. She has recently crossed over into the U.S. mainstream media, appearing as a guest on programs like CNN’s “Latinos in America,” NBC’s “Today Show,” and “The Biggest Loser.” García also served as a guest chef on Bravo’s “Top Chef, All-Stars” season finale, and was a series regular on NBC’s “Next Great Restaurant.”
Outside of the kitchen, Lorena devotes her free time to philanthropic efforts such as combating childhood obesity. She developed the program “Big Chef, Little Chef” to help children and their families improve their lives through healthier eating habits.
